Eric Hart

I have been working professionally in theatre since 2001, and have been building props for most of that. I have spent three summers as a props carpenter at the Santa Fe Opera, two seasons as an artisan at Spaeth Design in New York City working on holiday windows for retail stores, and one winter at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. I worked for about four years in New York City, freelancing for many of the Off-Broadway theatres and a bit of Broadway work as well. I also delved into commercial work such as retail display, photo shoots, trade shows and corporate events. For two of those years, I worked full-time as the Assistant Props Master at the Public Theater.

I have built props for shows designed by John Lee Beatty, John Conklin, Eugene Lee, Scott Pask, Donyale Werle, Mark Wendland, Neil Patel, Allen Moyer, Derek McLane, Ricardo Hernandez, Michael Yeargan, Paul Owen, David Zinn and many others.

In 2011, I moved to North Carolina, where I am freelancing once again. I have written a number of magazine articles about props. My book, "The Prop Building Guidebook: For Theatre, Film and TV," will be published by Focal Press in February, 2013.
